Each of the above activities consolidates definitional or
contextual information about the word and gives students the
opportunity to own the word for themselves. Group discussion
of word meanings also helps students learn new vocabulary by
having to actively participate in their own learning.
WordSift, WordVis, Quizlet, Padlet, Knowji,
Vocabulary Spelling City, ThingLink are also digital resources
that support word learning, review, and playing with language
tools and offer a wide range of advantages: hear
pronunciations; read words in a variety of authentic examples;
view photos and images related to words, reinforce word
learning through interactive games;play with and manipulate
language;discover rhyming words; and collaborate with
classmates to create virtual words walls.
